Stepping Back is Hard AF - here’s what we don’t talk about.

It’s not hard because you don’t know what you need.

It’s hard because your human body is wired to hold on to what’s familiar —

even when it no longer fits.

Stepping back hurts.

There’s grief.

There’s uncertainty.

There’s the loss of an identity, a rhythm, a version of you that once made sense.

That pain isn’t weakness.

It’s biology.

It’s being human.

I saw this clearly watching my son step back from travel baseball to rec ball.

This meant there was :

Grief from loss of identity - (I talk about GRIEF in this blog here)

Uncertainty in creating friends

•Adjustments to more time

But stepping back didn’t make him lose direction —

It created SPACE to NOTICE what he actually enjoyed

and what felt supportive instead of forced.

That’s when it clicked

When we slow down enough to hear what our body is whispering,

we don’t lose ourselves…

we make room for clarity, new desires, and choices that actually feel like us again.

That’s the H in my SHIFT method —

learning to HEAR your body so you can move, speak, and decide

from confidence instead of overwhelm.

If you’re in the messy middle of a step-back —

and part of you knows something needs to change,

but another part is scared to let go…

You’re not broken.

You’re human.

And you don’t have to navigate it alone.
